Artist Bio
Çağla Baykal is an interdisciplinary artist working across image, sound, and text; she explores the perceptual and cultural dimensions of the image, examining how sensory forms shape perception and mediate the experience of reality.
Her practice is not defined by a single medium. Rather, it is grounded in a dynamic inquiry into perception and the structures through which reality becomes experience.
Her approach is shaped by an extensive background in publishing and visual direction. After graduating in Fashion Design from London College of Fashion (LCF), she worked as Fashion Director of Marie Claire Turkey and later continued in this role at Elle Turkey.
She previously studied British Literature at Bilkent University; her studies at Boğaziçi University contributed to the early formation of her interdisciplinary approach.
Over the years, Baykal has worked as an art and fashion director across fashion, advertising, exhibitions, television productions, and photographic campaigns. Alongside this, she has developed an expanding artistic practice that includes photography, image-based works, text, and sound. Her work has been published in international magazines.
She is the founder and creative director of Alfa, an independent art magazine that brings together artistic and documentary practices addressing cultural and social contexts.
Her practice has received recognition in international fine art photography awards and has been exhibited at major platforms, including Contemporary Istanbul. She is currently expanding her practice into sound and composition, with forthcoming works in film music.

Her practice navigates the fragile boundary between the visible world and the structures through which it is interpreted. Within this threshold, images both reveal and transform the realities they depict, actively participating in their construction.
Editorial Structures
Informed by her background in visual direction and publishing, Baykal incorporates editorial thinking into her methodology. Sequencing, context, and visual narrative function as structural elements that extend and reframe the meaning of individual works.

Her work considers images as carriers of cultural memory, engaging with the processes through which collective imagination is formed and sustained.

Sanatçı Biyografisi
Çağla Baykal, imge, ses ve metin arasında çalışan disiplinlerarası bir sanatçıdır; imgenin algısal ve kültürel boyutlarını araştırır; duyusal biçimlerin algıyı nasıl şekillendirdiğini ve gerçeklik deneyimine nasıl aracılık ettiğini inceler.
Pratiği belirli bir medyumla tanımlanmaz. Aksine, algı ve gerçekliğin deneyime dönüşmesini mümkün kılan yapılar üzerine devinen bir sorgulamaya dayanır.
Yaklaşımı, yayıncılık ve görsel yönlendirme alanındaki kapsamlı geçmişiyle şekillenmiştir. London College of Fashion’da (LCF) Moda Tasarımı eğitimi aldıktan sonra Marie Claire Türkiye’de Moda Direktörü olarak görev yapmış, ardından Elle Türkiye’de bu görevini sürdürmüştür.
Daha önce Bilkent Üniversitesi’nde İngiliz Dili ve Edebiyatı eğitimi almış; Boğaziçi Üniversitesi’ndeki çalışmaları disiplinlerarası yaklaşımının erken oluşumuna katkı sağlamıştır.
Yıllar içinde Baykal; moda, reklam, sergi, televizyon prodüksiyonları ve fotoğraf projelerinde sanat ve moda direktörü olarak çalışmıştır. Bu süreçle paralel olarak fotoğraf, imge temelli üretimler, metin ve sesi içeren genişleyen bir sanatsal pratik geliştirmiştir. Çalışmaları uluslararası dergilerde yayımlanmıştır.
Sanatsal ve belgesel pratikleri bir araya getiren, kültürel ve toplumsal bağlamlara odaklanan bağımsız sanat dergisi Alfa’nın kurucusu ve yaratıcı direktörüdür.
Pratiği, uluslararası güzel sanatlar fotoğraf ödüllerinde takdir görmüş; Contemporary Istanbul başta olmak üzere önemli sanat platformlarında sergilenmiştir. Hâlen pratiğini ses ve kompozisyon alanına doğru genişletmekte, film müziği alanındaki çalışmalarını yayıma hazırlamaktadır.

Pratiği, görünür dünya ile onun yorumlanmasını mümkün kılan yapılar arasındaki kırılgan sınırda ilerler. Bu eşikte imge, yalnızca açığa çıkaran değil, aynı zamanda dönüştüren bir unsur olarak işlev görür; temsil ettiği gerçekliği yeniden kurar.
